5:33 I think Oscar would have gone straight if he heard how corny this letter would be resuscitated for posterity.

I, too, think the vocal used to represent Oscar Wilde is, at best, ludicrous. His voice is described for posterity, though not (as far as I know) recorded.

I agree he would have had a hint of an Irish accent, but not to the degree many might hope, rather, I feel, he’d have as much of an Irish tinge as Richard Burton, or Dylan Thomas had of Welsh.

@violentsilence4u Yes he was irish but lost his accent at oxford.. but still I agree with u the voice used for Oscar sounds like a joke… However I think Wilde would have loved this ridiculous voice ;)

@dahwang12 I can see why you thought so, when he went to Oxford he learned to affect an English accent .

With regard to Dorian Gray, the Dorians were an ancient Greek civilization dedicated to homosexuality and Gray was his homosexual lover at the time he wrote the book.

As I told the other kind gent that pointed me out, I stand corrected! Now leave me alone!

13 MrCsharpMajor { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

Oscar Wilde was not British.. He was Irish ;)

14 dahwang12 { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

I stand corrected.

15 nattt23 { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

He was Irish, not British.

16 nattt23 { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

Sorry, didn’t see that you’d discovered it!

After Wilde was imprisoned and disgraced his wife, Constance, changed her surname. I’m pretty sure that’s how he got it.

18 camada14 { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

after wilde was sent to prison, his wife constance had to change her surname because it was too dangerous for her to have the same surname as the homosexual writer. so she changed her name into holland and well, also the name of her sons of course. i think merlin holland is the son of vyvyan holland.

19 HurricaneHeidi { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

Well… as of Part 7 I’ve learned the answer — Wilde’s wife moved to Switzerland and changed her surname back to her family name of Holland.

20 HurricaneHeidi { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

How can someone named MERLIN HOLLAND be Oscar Wilde’s grandson? I thought Wilde fathered two SONS (no daughters). Hence, his grandson should bear the same surname — WILDE.

1 A young Lord who is a Drama Queen, with a loon for a father–the outcome could scarcely be any less disastrous if it had happened in modern times.

2 The pistol and swordstick should be used on the narrator–as ViolentSilence4U put it, “a Monty Python joke”.

Oscar Wilde=Awesomeness. President for life of Uncyclopedia, and one of the greatest British minds next to Charles Dickens.

Bravo, thanks for uploading!

23 violentsilence4u { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

he would of had at least a hint of an irish accent… and not sound like a monthy python joke…

24 Valerian1 { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

Agreed. Wilde was a representative of Genius. Do we have to make him sound like a pedantic fop?

25 truitjess { 05.21.10 at 4:22 am }

Very very good, thank you!!!
